SYRUPS : Syrups are concentrated aqueous Preparation of a sugar or sugar substitutes with or without flavoring agents and medicinal substances. ADVANTAGES : Easiest route of administration. Economical and safe to the patient. No nursing is required. Appropriate for any age group patient. DISADVANTAGES: Delayed onset of action. Can't avoid first pass metabolism. Not Convenient for a patient having gastro -intestinal disorder. Classification OF Syrups: They are classified into two types : 1 Medicated Syrup: Analgesic - Meperidine Hydrochloride. Anticholinergic - Dicylomine Hydrochloride. Anticonvulsant - Sodium Valproate. 2 Non- Medicated Syrup Cocoa Syrup. Orange Syrup. Raspberry Syrup.
